Research Areas:

Geovisualisation, Geovisual Analysis, Location-Based Services, Human Computer Interaction, Graphical User Interfaces, Interface Personalisation.

Dr Gavin McArdle received a BSc degree in computer science in 2003 from the National University of Ireland, University College Dublin. In 2008 Gavin completed his PhD degree in University College Dublin where he investigated the benefits of using collaborative and virtual reality environments for learning, collaborating and socialising online. In June 2008 Gavin took up a postdoctoral position with StratAG, initially based at UCD, where he investigated map personalisation by utilising user preferences. Since June 2010, Gavin has been a StratAG postdoctoral research fellow at the National Centre for Geocomputation at NUI, Maynooth. He is investigating visual analysis techniques for large datasets containing movement information. Gavin's research interests include geovisualisation, geovisualisual analysis, interface personalisation, location-based services and user profiling.
